The following is a roleplay-log from SouCon MUSH (soucon.strange.com 4201). The world of Pern is copyright to Anne McCaffrey.

You walk toward the bustling Weyrhall.

Tiri aahs and nods, a small light blinking in her head, "So it might be L'mirs?" she asks, glancing at the others.

Kayjay remains silent, but slowly shakes her head at Jayla. Her eyes saying this is what is happening.

Kayjay nods to Tiri. "Very good chance, yes."

With about as much energy as ever, Joslyn comes strolling in from the courtyard - hands in their customary pocket-perch. A yawn precedes a greeting and she's off after klah and cookies, most likely.

Jayla isn't going to let this get to her. Not at all, nope. Not even that look in Kayjay's eyes seems to seep into her.

Kayjay sighs softly, shrugging as she continues to sip her tea, elbows on the table, fingers wrapped around the mug. "It's a good possibility Jayla.."

"A small oh," is uttered from the girls mouth, "Anyone want some Klah?" Tiri asks. trying to break the tension.

Joslyn wants some klah. That's why she was headed that way. She glances between Kayjay and Jayla first, though, some vague flicker of curiosity before a mug is stretched toward Tiri. "I want some," she states simply, a smile for this girl she doesn't know.

"What's a possibility?" Jayla inquires of Kayjay, although she very well know what she's talking about. Go ahead, ruin this odd little 'nothin gets to me' mood.

Tiri stands up, wandering over to the table, she glances back at Kayjay and Jayla, "You want any?" her normally confident voice, quiet.

Jayla shakes her head at Tiri, "Nah, I'm fine." Yeah, sure she is..

Joslyn, ignored, goes in search of her own pot, then. A brow raises as she looks after Tiri a moment, but the gesture ends in a shrug as the goldrider successfully fills the aforementioned mug and goes off after cookies, too.

Tiri looks over to the goldrider,"I'm was just getting you some sorry," she cringes slightly, "I'm Tiri, by the way," she adds, unable to remember whther she's met hr.

Kayjay nods to Joslyn briefly then focuses back on Jayla. She softly says. "There is a good possibility the child Cassie carries is L'mir's. After all, his dragon caught hers."

"Don't worry. Happens all th'time," Joslyn assures, tossing off another smile to Tiri - who she's now sort of met. Klah and cookies in hand, she toddles back toward the three girls, telling Tiri, "I'm Josy, gold Jeuneth's." There's a brief pause and she adds curiously, "So Cassie's got L'mir's kid, huh?"

Bryena walks over from the Western Courtyard.

Kayjay nods. "I would think so.. Things like this complicate lives, huh?"

Tiri nods, silently her eyes flicking around the room.

Joslyn shrugs again, absently dropping into the nearest empty seat and arranging plate and mug. "Generally, yeah," she agrees with Kayjay. "'Cept Cassie's a greenrider so she's prob'ly used to it. And L'mir's a bronzerider so he might as well get used to it. Might get him off th'market for a bit, at least."

Jayla narows her eyes on Kayjay. "Ah ha! So then there /is/ a slight possibility that it isn't then." Let her hold on to that very remote change. Then her gaze shifts to the entering Bryena. All silent she is, too.

Kayjay hmms at Jayla. "I don't know, Jayla.. from what Cassie said earlier, it doesn't sound like she has been with anyone else in a long while." She nods to Bryena, then worries her bottom lip with her teeth. "Good thing Suriath hasn't caught any male greenriders's dragons.."

Joslyn lifts a brow in Jayla's direction, a doubtful expression coloring her features. "Don't hold your breath, starsmith," is her helpful comment. "I dunno Cassie all that well, but I don't see her havin' dozens of folks in and outta her furst, y'know? Anyway and either way, my marks're on L'mir as papa."

Bryena makes her way into the hall, arms carrying a a bundle of hides to be delivered as she catches parts of the conversation. Nodding to the group, she casually makes her way over to the table. "Good day," she replies in greeting, though the curious expression at current conversation is evident. Before hearing Joslyn's comment at least.

Tiri raises one eyebrow, unused to conversation this open, "Does that mean she'll join the queens wing for a bit?" is all she can think of to say.

Joslyn shoots a half-grin over at Tiri and her remark, adding, "Yep, more'n likely. Accourse, half th'Weyr seems to be stuck there with bronzerider spawn nowadays." She knocks back a gulp of klah and adds a cheerful, "Hullo, Bryena."

Tiri aahs and clicks her fingers, "Hasn't K'tor put two riders into the wing," she asks, tying to remember.

"Perhaps holding my breath is a good idea, Joslyn." Jayla remarks rather numbly. Or perhaps falling off a cliff would be a better one, no? She just looks at Bryena, sighing softly.

Kayjay raises an eyebrow."One of the perks of being a brownrider. I don't have to worry about that."

"At least two," comes Joslyn's musing reply, the edges of a cookie nibbled off so crumbs land on the table before her. "Prob'ly more." A grin steals over her as she adds, "It really wouldn't surprise me if he had a hand in Cassie's condition. Ifya hold your breath, Jayla, you'll faint and - fun as that sounds - prob'ly wouldn't help matters any."

"What's this about L'mir being a papa," Bryena asks slowly, nodding to Joslyn in greeting, if slowly. This trader turned record keeper isn't in the least bit dense, but the fact that she wants to make sure her hears aren't playing tricks on her. Shock, surprise, etc hasn't set in yet. Though it's most likely surprise.

Ever ready to brighten someone's day, Joslyn relates to Bryena, "Cassie's with child and the safe bet's on L'mir as the daddy. 'Cause of th'flight, y'know? And Jayla's tryin' to convince herself otherwise," she adds extranneously but cheerfully.

Tiri raises both eyebrow at Joslyn's word, "Cassie stormed out of here and then L'mir went after her" she adds.

Jayla snorts softly the goldrider, "Don't knock it til ya try it." Fainting, that is. She smiles sweetly up at Bryena, but her voice is directed elsewhere, "Who said I'm trying to convince myself?"

Joslyn informs matter of factly, "I did faint once. I didn't like it any." But back to the subject at hand, "Well, it's kinda OBVIOUS you're trying to convince yourself, Jayla. We all know you've got th'hots for him, and you don't seem too happy 'bout the kidlet, and you seem t'want it to be someone else's, so..." Abruptly, she turns furrowed brows upon Tiri: "Do I know you?"

Kayjay blinks at Joslyn. She grabs a cookie and dunks it in her tea, then sucks on it. "Yep, complicates things."

Tiri shuffles nervously, "no, ma'am, I'm Tiri, ma'am" though she's sure she's said her name, she smiles softly, glancing round the hall.

Bryena settles for shocked. That's about all she /can/ do leaning against the nearest table in a half sitting position. She's always said that she wouldn't mind the flights, but it's time to put her marks where her mouth is in this case. "Ah, so it's certain then," she inquires quietly, looking over at Jayla. Who knows what is going to her mind at the moment.

Joslyn repeats doubtfully, "Ma'am? You must mean someone else. I'm JOSY." She emphasizes the name with a smile for Tiri, though bright eyes flicker back toward Bryena with a more sympathetic smile. "It ain't so bad as all that, hon. Kids're fun. Even if they ain't yours."

Kayjay hmms, looking vaguely troubled. "I will see you all later."

Tiri grins, "sorry ma' errr, Josy," she turns her attention back to the others, "My parent certainly though so, they had 9 of them," she grins, eyes sparkling with laughter.

Kayjay leaves her tea mug on the table and walks out of the hall, obviously distracted.

Kayjay strides over to the Courtyard.

Jayla settles her eyes on Joslyn, expression nor voice giving away any sort of emotion at all or, pray tell, what she's thinking. "You hardly even know the full of what I feel for him. Haven't even scratched the surface yet, dearie." No use denying /everything/.

Joslyn looks after Kayjay for a moment, obviously wondering but it's a bit too late to ask. A shrug lifts her shoulders and she makes a 'eek' expression at Tiri. "Nine? What'd they do with 'em all?" Jayla's words greet her ears and she shrugs again, "I don't pretend t'know hardly any of it. I just seen you drool on him and so've some other folks. S'all I meant, dearie."

Tiri rolls her eyes to Josy, "Make us look after them, that's wat. I need to get back there soon," she answers, "I left my older sister in charge for a bit but she's better with runners than children," she adds, sipping quickly from her klah.

"It's not that bad," Bryena echos, glancing towards Joslyn curiously. If anyone wanted to knock her over, it would be easy to do. Just a small poke would do it. Just the thought of littles makes this girl slowly on the wary side. At the comment towards Jayla, she wisely keeps quiet, though if it was any other situation, she might not be as silent. Either way, she's listening.

"Sounds like a girl after my own heart, your sister does," Joslyn comments, grinning unflappably at Tiri. "You trot off, then. But, if you ever get the hankering, come back here and talk to th'headwoman? She was running off at the mouth about needing nannies the other day. She'd prob'ly LOVE to have you about."

Tiri grins, "I don't need to go just yet," she adds, "my sister can normally cope, it's just when it gets near the tie the littles need feeding she can't cope," she adds, oblivious to Bryena discomfort.

Jayla doesn't seem to even react to Joslyn's last comment to her. Unless one wants to count that mysterious gulp. She all but stutters, probably does knowing how much she can't trust herself. "I /don't/ 'drool ' all over him."

"Oh, well," Joslyn adds, likewise oblivious to Bryena now that there's something else to think about. "Then you oughta stick around here a bit. Bring the kidlets with you if you haveta. We could sure use a nanny if you're interested." Hint, hint. "Prob'ly not all over him, but on his boots and stuff. Follow him 'round with stars in your eyes and stuff. It's kinda sad."

Tiri nods, "I'd just need to pop back if anything," she replies to Joslyn, "my ma normally gets back to the cot by late feeding time," she adds, trying to remember.

Joslyn, obviously pleased, "Well then, you should definitely stop in our nursery and maybe see th'headwoman about schedules and stuff. Otherwise, your more than welcome to stay on around here. We've got cottages for girls right through there," as she points toward the garden cottage clearing and the scenery beyond.

Jayla just looks at the goldrider, eyes narrowing now slightly. She could say something rude in return, couldn't she? Nah, she wouldn't do that at a time like this. Instead she goes for something else, "I don't follow him around. Heck, when's the last time I've even had a good talk with him?" She's not denying having star's in her eyes.

Bryena was going to probably going to finish delivering those hides and then just, well...she'll do something. In any case, she slips out of the hall, though wasn't she heading in the opposite direction? Not towards the courtyard?

Joslyn shrugs again at Jayla and replies quite honestly, "Can't say as I keep track of your every move. But... Well, it was pretty bad for a while there. Poor kid couldn't even show his face in public without bein' hounded." Speaking of L'mir's followers, the goldrider's chin lifts to look after the departing Bryena with a quick wave.

Bryena strides over to the Courtyard.

"Of which I'm quite glad. I wouldn't exactly appreciate you knowing everything I do." Jayla remarks blandly. To that second comment, her eyes open wide and she slips down further in her seat.

Joslyn lets a grin steal over her as she blithely crumbles her cookies. "I could if I wanted to, y'know - know everything you do. I just choose not to 'cause... well... Don't take this th'wrong way, Jayla, but you seem t'spend a lotta time worried about boys. L'mir in particular, though I 'member when it was F'loran." Yes, she's grateful the focus has shifted.

Jayla shakes her head, "I'm not worried about boys.." Just one in particular, of course, like she said. She looks up with an odd smile. "Don't we all remember that?" Oh right, back to that numbed mood. "I just... well, its very confusing for me, ya know. Boys and all.."

"See, that's your problem," Joslyn rattles off sagely. Not that she has the first or faintest clue what she's chattering about. "Boys ain't confusing. Just pick one what likes you and that you can tolerate and you're set. Otherwise, don't fuss about 'em. More trouble than they're worth. Even F'loran. And he's cute."

Jayla shrugs slightly, picking a bit at a sem on her tunic. "That's just the problem, Josy. Picking." As for the F'loran comment, she wisely keeps her mouth shut.

Joslyn, thoughtfully, "Well, it's kinda apparent you picked the wrong one this time. Stay away from bronzeriders. They're impossible." She says that with true vehemence and a rather ugly expression for good measure. "Try brownriders or blueriders or stewards. They're a nice lot."

Rnayth really went between to the other side, to rescue his rider from the life beyond death and brought him back.

Jayla snorts balefully, "How was I supposed to know he'd turn out to be a bronzerider at the time?" And apparently she's too stubborn, or foolish, to change her mind on that count. "Or to pick an ex-steward." She starts jokingly.

After thinking a moment, Joslyn comments, "I thought you didn't start really chasing till after he'd Impressed?" She shrugs that aside promptly and proceeds, "Anyway. It's hardly important. You can't have him. That much is obvious. And you can't have the ex-Steward, either." That last with an adament nod.

Jayla shakes her head, hand waving away something near her eyes. "See, that's where you're wrong, Joslyn. It all started before he impressed. And by then, I guess you can say I was hooked." She blinks. "I can't?" Just hit her with a brick or something, why don't you.

Joslyn, matter-of-factly, "Don't matter when it started. Fact of th'matter is that it really oughta stop. It ain't doing anyone any good, particularly you'n L'mir." Another nod comes and she adds, "No, you can't. L'mir has Cassie and her baby to think about now, and we all know he likes Bryena th'best. And F'loran is off limits." And Josy has a crossbow.

Jayla thinks of this for a bit, "Not much good came of it from the very beginning, anyway. But why should I give up, hmm?" At Josy's comment about Bryena her back stiffens, "Perhaps you aren't aware of what he told me?" Or wrote, even.

"I ain't sayin' give up, Jayla," Joslyn explains, exasperation settling in. "I'm just sayin' get over it. It don't matter what he said or wrote or any of that. It's painfully obvious that he's not chasin' you half so much as you're chasin' him. Maybe if you played hard t'get it might work better?" Pause. "Why? What'd he write?"

write=say

Jayla knows that is a good point, no matter how harsh it might sound to her own ears. "Hard to get, now there's a thought." Just act like he's any other guy, right?Sure, she could do that. "He uh.. said that he just wanted to see if there was anything left between 'em before trying anything else." Brow creases as she tries to remember the rest. Now what WAS it?

Joslyn repeats as if sagely, "Hard t'get, yes. That means don't tear off your clothes and swim naked every single time you two just happen to be near water t'gether. Stuff like that. It works. Trust me." She would know, after all. "And I dunno if I'd take much heart in that. Obviously means he'd rather make it work with Bryena than you." Speaking of harsh...

Jayla nods slowly, "I think I just might take your advice, Joslyn." If she doesn't happen to snap first, but that's something different entirely. She grimaces, but she'll believe what she wants to. "We never had much together anyway." She was always thwarted and then that mistake at the dance and.. "I think I'd just rather let things take there own course. Not push anything, ya know. If its meant to be, it'll happen. If not, I s'ppose I'll have to deal with it."

Brows furrowed, Joslyn mutters (apparently to herself), "You really can't take a hint, can you?" Then at a more conversational tone, "That's a better philosophy, at least. You'll wear yourself out chasin' that bronzerider like you have been. Find someone better suited t'you.L

"L'mir just wasn't for you."

Jayla frowns at the muttering, but doesn't even hazard to worry about that much. She can take a hint, just usually too dense or something to really take it to heart. She shrugs slightly and starts to stand, "You could be right, but then again you could be wrong. No one's really sure what's going on. L'mir said himself that he was confused.." And so is she... "This was rather enlightening, Joslyn, but I do believe I've some things to work on." With that, she turns and quickly exits the hall.

Jayla strides over to the Courtyard.

Cassie strides over from the Western Courtyard.

Joslyn, who was just about to turn her attention back to her cookies and klah, changes her mind in favor of smiling Cassie's way. "Hullo, greenrider. We was just talkin' about you," she informs cheerfully.

"Ayep," Joslyn replies, neverminding said innocence. "Rumor - " More commonly known as Josy. " - has it you're carrying L'mir's baby. Jayla's pretty much crushed. Bryena didn't seem too pleased, either. I think it's great." Beam.

Cassie pours some juice, and starts to put some healthyf ood on a plate. "You're right, Josy," Not rumor, "I am carrying L'mir's child."

Joslyn nods brightly, polishing off the last of that long-forgotten klah. "I figured. Bronzeriders'll do that toya. Still, I'm happy for you. Kids're fun, I hear. And at least L

"And at least L'mir's a decent fellow. You'll be flyin' with us soon, though. Belira oughta be back soon, too, so we'll have a pleasantly full wing."

Kayjay walks over from the Western Courtyard.

Cassie nods slowly. "I've already got two, nearly full grown boys. I wasn't expecting this one at all. L'mir's rather excited about being a daddy."

Kayjay takes a deep breath and peeks her head in the hall entrance. She breathes a sigh of relief at Cassies' comment and strides into the hall.

Joslyn rattles on with, "Yeah, I imagine he would be. Little bit of a young daddy, but it could be worse. When're you gonna deliver?" She looks up and over with a smile for Kayjay, waving to the returning brownrider and adding, "Jayla left. All's clear'n quiet."

Cassie ums.. "Bout five more months, give or take a sevenday or so."

Kayjay hmms. "L'mir has been on his own for turns though. That matures you, usually." She steps a bit further into the hall, sensing the all clear.

Joslyn lifts a brow, ticking back the months on her fingers until she comes up with the appropriate figure. "Guess that sounds 'bout right. Got any names picked out? Casimir? Or Lassie?" Hmmm. Her nose wrinkles at Kayjay's comment and she notes, "So've I." And she's still all of
